Rich Internet Applications

Despite being web-based applications, Rich Internet Applications function like desktop applications. Typically, they have features and functionalities of desktop applications but they can easily access data and programs residing upon remote web servers.

So why so much fuss over Rich Internet Applications? First of all they demolish the boundaries of traditional web-based applications. Up till now the web-based applications, in the name of interactivity, could only offer text boxes, drop-down boxes and other form-based and link-based controls. Every action depended on page refreshes. Every processing happened on the server side and the client side only handled the static data. This meant whenever the application needed to access new or updated data it had to access the server. Accessing the server again and again might not be a problem if very few people are using the application but it tremendously slows things down if lots of people are using the application at the same time. This also created constraints for application developers who were itching to create applications that could use strengths of both the desktop and the Internet environment. Both users and application creators terribly missed the level of interactivity and flexibility offered by even mediocre desktop applications. Read the rest of this entry »

Small business web site

Do you manage a Small Business and wonder whether it needs a Website or not?
Many Small Business Operators are faced with this dilemma, especially when they see everyone carrying an official URL on visiting cards and letterheads. The doubt is greater when most of your customers and clients are situated locally. You may ask yourself why your customers and clients would go to your Small Business Website when they can easily drop by at your office or outlet!!

A Website is not just a fad – it used to be a fad maybe 10 years ago but not anymore. Your Website can be as important as your telephone connection, or even your actual business location. We are not saying this because we are in the business of building Websites; these days whenever people have to make a purchase or hire a Service Provider they instinctively log onto the Internet and try to visit the Website of the business. They simply assume that every business these days has a Website – and businesses that don’t, don’t mean business. Irrespective of the fact whether you can directly sell from your web site or not, a Small Business Website can be an integral part of your Shop or Office.

What is the difference between a prebuilt and the custom shopping cart?

It is very difficult to think about a e-commerce website that sells tangible products without a shopping cart.  If you don’t know what a shopping cart is, it is the interface that lets you add items to a data array when you are shopping online.  When you’re done with adding all the items it presents to you a tabular view of the total of the amount you have to pay along with the list of items you have decided to purchase along with their individual prizes.

There are many flavors of prebuilt shopping carts available on the Internet and many shopping carts are even free.  Most of the time when you get your website hosted on a third-party commercial server among many free scripts they also give you a free shopping cart script that you can install as and when you need it.  But free is after all free.

Similarly there are many expensive, commercial shopping carts available that you can purchase and install or lease for a year or more.  They are mostly like the proprietary software that you may have on your computer; you can use it and you can make use of the features it already has but you cannot customize it much and you cannot customize the features that come with the software. Prebuilt commercial shopping carts become operational very quickly even if you have to compromise on the customization aspect.  Just purchase or lease the script and start using it from the day one. Disadvantages of open source software

Are you or your organization planning to jump onto the bandwagon of “the open source software revolution”? In case you’re not aware of what is open source software it is supposed to be free software.  Open source software can be modified by anybody and then redistributed because its code is supposed to be freely available, unlike the commercial software applications that you cannot alter and redistribute.  The only caveat is that you cannot alter the open source software and then sell it commercially.  Some prevalent examples of open source software are OpenOffice.org, a Microsoft office alternative, Ubuntu (a variant of Linux), a Windows operating system alternative, and Gimp, a Photoshop alternative. How to find the right software development company

As your organization grows in size and scale sooner or later you are going to require custom-built software.  Although there are thousands of software companies selling prepackaged software, every company has unique requirements and to cater to those requirements the development of custom software is inescapable.  But it is easier said than done.  More often than not the software development company that you find for your organization can prove to be the biggest roadblock if you’re not careful enough about selecting it.  In this blog post we shall explore a few things that you can take into consideration while trying to find the right software development company.
Before you can embark upon this task you have to clearly define what your organization needs. Research the market carefully and find out if software already exists to solve your problem.  Purchasing a pre-existing software solution is always better than getting the whole thing developed from scratch.  Look for a software development company only as a last option, only when you cannot find what you are looking for in the market.
So here are a few things you should keep in mind while trying to find the right software development company for your organization: Read the rest of this entry »

Earn money with AdSense — advantages and disadvantages

Earn money with AdSense — advantages and disadvantages

There is a very remote chance that you have been browsing the Internet and haven’t come across AdSense advertisements. The ubiquitous add links can be seen on every website that regularly publishes content. You will find AdSense links on websites providing professional services too, although this is not recommended because it sends your valuable traffic away and it also conveys the message that since you are not doing enough business you are trying to generate some extra cash with the help of AdSense ads.
Ever since millions of people started publishing content on the Internet Google invented a novel way of displaying ads and provided an opportunity to the publishers to earn some good money. The AdSense links are not only used by amateur publishers they are also a significant source of income for mainstream media publishers such as newspapers and video websites. Web development with ColdFusion

Ecomsolutions Inc has been developing ColdFusion applications — e-commerce websites and online content management solutions — for more than five years with an unbeaten track record. There has not been even a single instance of project failure during this triumphant phase of ColdFusion web development. But why web development with ColdFusion and not with some other programming or scripting language such as PHP, Ruby on rails or Python? First of all ColdFusion is amazingly fast; it is so fast that sometimes it seems like magic. It is a language specifically evolved for enterprise level solutions, although it can be easily used — without resorting to an overkill — for smaller websites and applications too. In fact you can use ColdFusion for static web sites too but it is rarely done. It can be easily integrated with any platform from Java to .Net and it supports all Web 2.0 web development features and enhancements such as Ajax and user generated content management. Most of the online content and document management applications are developed using ColdFusion because of its unmatched features.

The web development methodologies at Ecomsolutions Inc are time-tested as well as innovative; sometimes we strictly follow the rules and sometimes we define our own rules in order to deliver the maximum benefit to our customers. As a first step towards delivering world-class online application solutions we have only been focusing on programming in ColdFusion. Other than that our strict quality control mechanism is a self-regulatory system that is set in motion as soon as a new project initiates.

We employ highly modular web development techniques while developing solutions for our customers. Due to a very high efficiency level we are able to minimize the time spent on web development and maximize the output and hence charge a very reasonable rate from our customers. Of course ColdFusion has a great part in it because when you work in ColdFusion coding efficiency is handled by its environment automatically.

Our web development activities are mostly centered around developing highly advanced e-commerce and online content publishing solutions for our customers from all over the world. You can easily say that when it comes to developing e-commerce and online publishing applications we have developed an incomparable expertise during the past five years. We have left no stone unturned trying to understand all the aspects of this great niche.

In our further posts we will be delving more on web development in ColdFusion.

Ten tips on agile software development

Agile software development process is one of the fastest emerging software development methodologies in the IT industry.
What exactly does agile software development process mean?

It means developing software in an iterative manner and every single iteration of programming is a complete software solution in itself.  This way the customer receives working software very quickly, but in small portions.  Many software companies including Ecomsolutions Inc have adopted agile software development technique to deliver high-quality software products in short time.  Here are a few things you should take care of before switching to the agile software development process: Read the rest of this entry »
